Temple University in Philadelphia is expanding its plastics recycling program to include mixed plastics, including Nos. 1 through 7, the school said.
“The expanded program is really aimed at making it easier for the Temple community to do the right thing and recycle,” said school Recycling Manager Marshall Budin, in a news item on the school’s website.
The move to include mixed plastics is part of a larger overall push by the university to increase recycling to 40 percent by 2015, the website said.
Diverting more plastics from the waste stream also will save the school money as it currently costs more than $150 more per ton to dispose of the trash compared with recycling, the school said.
