UltrePET LLC is beefing up plastics recycling capacity to nearly 100 million pounds per year through an expansion project, the company said.

The Albany, N.Y.-based company’s PET recycling facility also features improved sortation and recycling technology, UltrePet said.

“UltrePET has steadily expanded our position in the high-end PET reclaiming marketplace, serving FDA and non-FDA bottle, sheet, high-end fiber and engineered resin applications. By increasing and improving our technology we hope to further penetrate these markets and build on our leadership position,” President Scott Mellen said in a statement. Mellen could not be immediately reached for additional comment.

UltrePET is jointly owned by wTe Corp. of Bedford, Mass., and Tomra of North America in Stratford, Conn.

“The raw material stream continues to change in the PET marketplace. Our goal is to stay one step ahead of the competition in terms of our technical capabilities,” said UltrePET General Manager Paul Zordan in a statement.
