A weekend single-vehicle crash in Vanderburgh County, Ind., claimed the life of a long-time Berry Plastics Corp. employee.

Michael R. Lawrence, 41, of Evansville, Ind., died at the scene of an early Sunday morning crash at U.S. 164 and Indiana 57, according to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

“Evidence from the scene indicated the vehicle was south bound on I-164 when the driver left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle entered the median and struck a concrete overpass support,” according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.

Lawrence was the only occupant of the 2012 GMC Terrain, said police, who were called to the scene at 12:58 a.m. Sunday.

Lawrence, according to a local report in the Evansville Courier & Press, was product line manager at Evansville-based Berry Plastics, where he had worked for more than 17 years.

Friend Curt Begle, president of Berry Plastic’s Rigid Closed Top Division, told the newspaper of Lawrence’s love of his family, his charitable nature and importance to the company.

“He was an important part of Berry’s growth as a company — our past, present and future successes,” Begle told the newspaper.
