DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY — Compounding extruder-maker KraussMaffei Berstorff GmbH announced at K2013 that it is partnering with Zeppelin Systems GmbH to build turnkey compounding plants.

Zeppelin, based in Friedrichshafen, Germany, designs and builds complete plants, handling the logistics of storing, conveying, blending, dosing and weighing of bulk materials.

KraussMaffei Berstorff is based in Hannover, Germany.

KM Berstorff Vice President Dieter Brunner said the two companies are working on a project-by-project basis for greenfield projects, more than improving existing installations. The companies have worked together in the past.

KraussMaffei Berstorff builds complete compounding lines, tailored to customer requirements.

Zeppelin's roots are in the German airship company run by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. After World War II, the applied military authorities ordered the destruction and liquidation of the company. Out of the ashes came Metallwerk Friedrichshafen GmbH, taking advantage of Zeppelin's expertise in aluminum welding to create the airships' internal structure.

An early product, still made today: Silos for storing bulk materials.
