A trade group representing private trash hauling and recycling companies, including those that handle plastics, is adopting a new name after months and months of study.

The Environmental Industry Associations will become the National Waste & Recycling Association as of Dec. 2, adopting a name similar to one of its former sub-associations, the National Solid Wastes Management Association.

The new name comes as the association has simplified its structure and merged separate sub-groups representing private waste and recycling companies and those providing services those firms.

Members of EIA handle various recycled commodities, including plastics, paper, glass and metals.

“The strategic vision for the group is the creation of a merged advocacy organization with leadership, expertise and programs that promote the Association as the most effective and trusted voice on ‘all things waste and recycling,’ ” said Charlie Appleby, chairman of the association and CEO of Advanced Disposal Services Inc., in a statement.

The association represents nearly 800 companies.
